Duterte to Joma: Come home, stop insurgency

President Rodrigo Duterte has invited Communist Party of the Philippines founder Jose Maria “Joma” Sison to come home to discuss peace with the government.
Duterte made the remark during a campaign rally of the Partido Demoktratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan late Tuesday.
“Hinto mo muna lahat. Umuwi ka muna Sison. Ako bahala sa iyo. Hindi ako traidor na tao. I give you my word of honor. Mag usap tayo,” the President said.
“Pero nothing about coalition. You can never have even an iota of sovereign powers of the Republic of the Philippines. I am not allowed to do that,” according to him.
Prior to this, Duterte lamented that economic progress in Mindanao has been challenging due to the presence of communist rebels in the region.
“Kayong mga NPA (New People’s Army). Kung gusto niyo ng usapang matino… Immediate ceasefire… Walang magdala ng armas sa kampo ninyo sa labas. Walang taxation. Walang pangsunog ng mga…,” he said.
“Dahil sa Mindanao, maraming pumapasok para mag develop. Wala naman tayong pera. Ang hinahabol ko trabaho lang. Ngayon, nandiyan sila, manufacturing nandiyan na sa mismong site. Sana. Eh nandyan kayo e. Yan ang mahirap diyan. We cannot progress.
