President Rodrigo Duterte has accused the Makabayan bloc and militant groups Gabriela and Bayan of participating in a grand conspiracy led by the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) to overthrow the government.
In a taped address Monday, Duterte identified the progressive group Makabayan bloc, Bayan, and Gabriela as communist fronts.
“They are all legal fronts, Gabriela. We are not red tagging you. We are identifying you as members in a grand conspiracy comprising all the legal fronts that you have organized headed by NDF tapos ‘yung New People’s Army (NPA) at Communist Party of the Philippines,” according to the Chief Executive.
“Ilang tao na na galing doon sa inyo openly have attacked you, not only criticized, for your sheer brutality in this communal war. Communal war ito. There is no longer any ideology. Gusto lang nila umagaw ng gobyerno. Mga bobo naman ang p***** i**.
“The Armed Forces of the Philippines is very correct. You are being identified as the members of the communist. Alam namin. Iyon ang totoo. Hindi red tagging,” he also said.
At the Senate hearing on red-tagging last November 3, Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Zarate and Kabataan Rep. Sarah Elago, members of the Makabayan bloc, called for accountability from those who linked them to the CPP.
Zarate also denied being a member of the communist party, while Elago refuted claims that the youth organization is being used in NPA recruitment.
