Duterte to sign EO on drug price cap ‘twice over’

To ensure easy access of life-saving medicines to poor Filipinos, President Rodrigo Duterte has vowed to sign an executive order (EO) imposing price ceilings on at least 120 drugs.
“I will sign it. I will sign it. That’s good for the Filipino, reduced prices or maintaining a price. I will even sign the document twice over.” Duterte said in an interview with ABS-CBN.
The President said the draft of the EO has yet to reach his desk.
“Wala pa, maybe they are reviewing it. Kapag nasa table ko, sa gabi, binabasa ko. I have not come across any, I heard of it but hard facts are not yet there. But in principle, I will even sign it twice over,” he also said.
The Department of Health has been pushing to reduce the prices of 122 medicines under the second phase of the Maximum Drug Retail Price.
The proposed list covers medicines for hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic lung disease, neonatal diseases and major cancers.
