President Rodrigo Duterte flew to Sulu province Monday to visit his soldiers in Jolo town, according to Malacañang.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Duterte also checked the condition of wounded soldiers in the province.

“I confirm that [the President] had just left Jolo, Sulu where he addressed the troops and visited wounded soldiers,” added Roque.

Last July 3, Duterte met with military and police officials in Zamboanga City following the fatal police shooting of four soldiers in Jolo.

The Chief Executive vowed for an impartial investigation on the incident and assured justice for the slain military men.

“I am giving you my word of honor that the investigation will proceed to find out the truth unfettered, unbridled by anybody except ‘yung sa trabaho. Walang makialam at ‘yung totoo lang. Iyon ang maasahan ninyo. At kung sino man ang may kasalanan, then he has to pay for it,” he said.

The four Army intelligence personnel killed last June 29 were reportedly on a mission to apprehend alleged Islamist militants.
