President Rodrigo Duterte has vouched for the integrity of Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente following the alleged bribery scheme involving immigration personnel at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
On Thursday, Duterte said he fired all immigration officials and employees involved in the so-called “pastillas” modus operandi that allowed the entry of Chinese nationals to the country in exchange for P10,000 each.
“Kahapon, I terminated all sa kay Morente. Apparently, Si Morente mahal ko yan kasi chief of police yan dito, mabait yan. Kung hindi niya kaya, sabihan ko, limitado man rin kasi siya sa ano,” he said in a speech delivered in Davao City.
The President likewise ordered the filing of charges against the erring officials and employees.
“Yung lahat sa NAIA, file-a n mo ng kaso tapos pinaalis ko na with the end view of dismissal. Yung sa Customs 83 of them for dismissal. So do not tempt the gods, we are not gods. What I’m saying is just a figure of speech. Do not tempt the gods, just do your work, I will protect you. Stay aligned,” he added.
