Duterte wants Aklan’s politikos charged over Boracay’s stink: Pinabayaan niyong maging imburnal!
President Rodrigo Duterte has threatened to file charges of serious neglect against local politikos in Aklan over the deterioration of the popular island of Boracay.
In a speech in Cebu City Monday (February 12), Duterte scored the politikos for saying they will join efforts to clean up Boracay after he likened the island to a “cesspool.”
He said he told Environment Secretary Frank Cimatu not to believe the politikos.
“Sabi ko, ‘Huwag kang maniwala diyan sa ano.’ Alam mo ‘yang mga local governments, ‘yung mga tao diyan, I’m addressing myself now sa Boracay, pinahayaan ninyo ‘yung mga bagay-bagay, na building of structures overlapping the coastline,” Duterte said.
Duterte said it was because of local politikos that companies were able to build resorts and hotels without a proper sewage system.
“Inyo ‘yan eh. Now, ‘yung — you are overzealous about, ‘Oh, we should be a part…’ Kayo… Look, ‘pag ako ang na… I will charge you for serious neglect of duty making Boracay a fishpond or a sewer pool. Kayo ‘yan diyan,” he said.
Duterte blamed the local politikos for creating a “disaster” on the island, with the water having a stench.
“Tapos sabihin ninyo bilyon? Wala akong pakialam. It is Cimatu alone who will decide. If he thinks that he has to destroy there, he has to destroy you. He has my complete trust and confidence,” he said.
Duterte said he does not care if businesses on the island earn a lot because he will close it down if it is not cleaned up within six months.
Boracay is part of the municipality of Malay, whose mayor is Ceciron Cawaling.
