Duterte wants Comelec to explain VCM glitches: Pakinggan muna natin sila

Prior to conducting an investigation, President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday said he will let the Commission on Elections (Comelec) explain first reports of malfunctioning vote-counting machines on Election Day.
“That will be early. Comelec is an independent body and if there is any malfunction or if there is any aberration at all in the procedure of conduct of election, let Comelec explain first to the people before we even initiate a sort of an investigation,” said Duterte during a media interview after casting his vote in Davao City.
“That is in recognizance of the separation (of powers),” the Chief Executive added.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez earlier said that “about 400 to 600” out of 85,000 VCMs were replaced due to technical difficulties.
“We understand that the perception is that there are a lot of VCMs that have malfunctioned. Right now I can tell you that the estimate is about 400 to 600 VCMs out of 85,000 have experienced issues,” Jimenez said in a press briefing.
