President Rodrigo Duterte has threatened to send the military and the police to enforce quarantine procedures if people continue to disobey the coronavirus lockdown.
In a televised public address Thursday evening, Duterte called on the public to maintain discipline during the enhanced community quarantine.
“I’m just asking for your disiplina kaunti,” the President said.
“Kasi ‘pag ayaw ninyo, ayaw ninyong maniwala, mag-take over ang military pati pulis. I am ordering them now to be ready. Ang pulis pati military ang mag-enforce sa distance social — distance at ‘yang curfew. Sila na. Parang martial law na rin. Mamili kayo. Ayaw ko pero pagka naipit na ‘yung bayan at walang disiplina kayo,” he added.
Duterte earlier ordered the strict implementation of the policy on authorized persons outside of residence following a reported increase in the number of vehicles traveling along major thoroughfares in Metro Manila.
