President Rodrigo Duterte has discouraged evacuees from returning to their homes, saying that smoke and ash continue to spew from Taal Volcano.
“Wala munang babalik doon hangga’t hindi magkalma ang panahon. Nobody is allowed to go there, to go back until such time that you are safe,” Duterte said in a speech before evacuees in Batangas City Tuesday night.
The President also emphasized the need to return to normalcy as soon as possible.
“You know, the first thing that you should do if there is a crisis of whatever — typhoon, it could be an earthquake, it could be a… Alam mo ang dapat gawin mo is to get back to normalcy immediately,” according to him.
“Huwag mo nang patagalin. Basta ‘pag dumating ‘yan at na-implement na natin ang lahat, go back to normal life immediately. ‘Yan ang dapat gawin ninyo,” he said, addressing all concerned government agencies.
Latest data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council indicated that 12,486 families or 53,019 people were affected by Taal eruption Batangas and Cavite. Of which, 43,681 are taking temporary shelter in 217 evacuation centers.
