President Rodrigo Duterte and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to discuss issues of mutual benefit during the former’s visit to China for the second Belt and Road forum in April.
“Well, I suppose continuation of their discussion on mutual concerns relative to trade, security, and what else that will benefit both countries,” Duterte’s spokesperson Salvador Panelo told reporters.
If the Chief Executive’s trip pushes through next month, it would be his fourth visit to China.
It can be recalled that Xi invited Duterte to attend the Forum in Beijing when he visited the Philippines in November last year.
“Both sides have the view that as fellow developing countries in Asia, China and the Philippines face similar developmental challenges which make us natural partners with a common destiny,” the Chinese leader said.
“The two sides will seek greater complementarity between China’s Belt and Road initiative and the Philippines’ development strategy; move forward cooperation around the three pillars of security, development, and people to people ties; and make our cooperation more comprehensive and balanced,” he added.
