Duterte’s 3 kinds of journalists: crusaders, mouthpieces, and ‘vultures, extortionists’ who deserve to die
Incoming President Rodrigo Duterte has come out with his three types of journalists and that only one kind deserved to be assassinated.
In a late night press conference on 2 June 2016, Duterte came out with his own classification system of journalists to parry criticisms that he declared an open season on media men with his previous claim that “just because you’re a journalist you are not exempted from assassination, if you’re a son of a bitch.”
Here are Duterte’s profiles of journos:
1) Those in the first class or number one category seldom die because their opinions are respected, they are righteous.
2) These are the publicists or those who are paid to be mouthpieces of politicians.
3) Third are the extortionists, the vultures of journalism, this is the kind who are killed the most. If you are vulture of journalism that is not my problem. They extort extort from illegal activities such as drugs, jueteng and sakla. They extort money from dirty policemen from their racket. They continue ask for more and more because their greed has no limit. That is why they are killed.
Duterte said there was always a risk for any journo to die “even the good ones who died along the way and maybe they benefited the country… speaking for the truth, they died unnecessarily.”
“But the lowlifes in the third category can die for all I care. But I said not everybody, there’s an exemption. Hindi lahat kayo. There are crusaders telling the truth and sacrificing their lives, they do not crave for things they could not afford,” said Duterte.
Duterte said he was just talking about the “terrain of journalism” which learned early on as a kid from his politiko father.”My father was governor for the
longest time, I could hear them during election time (discussing) who (among the journalists) was paid and who was not.”
