Duterte’s Davao Group wants to buy ABS-CBN to propel 2022 election bid — Trillanes
President Duterte’s anger against ABS-CBN network is supposedly more than just about a dispute over political advertisements in 2016.
Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has dropped a bombshell on YouTube, saying the Davao Group, composed of Duterte’s allies, is allegedly eyeing the purchase of the media giant.
In his latest YouTube video, Trillanes said the President threatened to block the franchise renewal of the network so its stock prices would nosedive and compel its owners to sell the station.
If the Davao Group becomes the new owner of the tv network, Trillanes said the Dutertes will certainly win in the 2022 elections. He said they could promote their candidates and malign their rivals over the network.
Trillanes also warned that ABS-CBN artists could also be used in the campaign of the candidates if the Davao Group controls the network.
Duterte recently accepted ABS-CBN apology for airing a negative political advertisement against him but left to Congress to decide on its franchise renewal. He said he will not interfere with the work of Congress.
