Egay Erice blames ‘yellow’ for Roxas’ loss in 2016
The camp of former senator Mar Roxas has blamed his association with former President Benigno Aquino III for his loss in the 2016 presidential race.
Roxas’ campaign manager for the 2019 polls, Caloocan City Rep. Edgar Erice, called wearing yellow in 2016 a “mistake.”
Yellow was the color of the Liberal Party (LP), of which Roxas was the standard bearer and Aquino was chairman.
It has also become the catch-all phrase for critics of President Rodrigo Duterte, who may or may not be allied with LP.
“It was a conscious decision [to change colors] because one mistake [Roxas] made in 2016 was acting like Robin to [Aquino’s] Batman … and Robin will never be Batman,” Erice told Inquirer reporter DJ Yap.
The lawmaker said Roxas “needed to get away from [Aquino’s] shadow if he were to win the 2019 senatorial race, which pre-election surveys showed to be dominated by administration allies.
