End of ‘Yellow Road’: Harry Roque tells Speaker, LP loyalists to move out of the way and let Duterte fix Congress

A former defender of Vice President Jejomar Binay is now taking the cudgels for President-elect Rodrigo Duterte.

Atty. Harry Roque, who will set as representative of Kabayan party-list in the 17th Congress, said that the Liberal Part should “give free reign to Duterte to organize Congress.”

“The election results is a complete repudiation of the yellow forces. Speaker (Sonny) Belmonte should now allow Bebot Alvarez to assume speakership rather than be obstructed in this regard,” Roque said in a statement.

Alvarez is an incoming Davao del Norte representatives and is Duterte’s handpicked candidate for Speaker of the House.

Alvarez is a member of PDP-Laban which needs to recruit more than 140 more congressmen to get elected as Speaker.

Belmonte is negotiating with Duterte to remain as Speaker with at least 110 LP members in the 17th Congress.

“Belmonte and his yellow cohorts have had their time and their time is now up. He should allow changes in Congress pursuant to the mandate given by the people to Duterte,” Roque said.

“Our kababayans are tired of the yellow way of doing things. In order for true change to happen, the LP must give way. If it is really the people’s welfare they have in mind and not their party’s, then the LP must allow to Duterte to organize Congress,” he added.
