Escudero’s hope: Entry of Mislatel to sway Globe, Smart to lower telco costs
Senator Francis Escudero is hoping that the entry of the third telecommunications player would improve telco services and lower costs in the country.
China-led Mislatel Consortium became the provisional new major player after passing the screening process of the government regulators, beating two other companies.
The selection of Mislatel aims to break long time duopoly of Globe and Smart which the President previously criticized for their poor yet costly services.
“The selection of the third major player bodes well for the industry as this would encourage other telco providers to further improve their services and bring the down the cost for the benefit of the Filipino consumers,” Escudero wrote on Facebook.
“Now it’s time for the new telco player to fulfill its commitment, and I hope it will considering the massive opportunity given to it. The third major telco operator should not waste the chance to serve the Filipino people,” he said.
