The Bureau of Immigration (BI) have yet to find any of the released 1,914 convicts have left the country, said Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete on Monday (Sept. 16).

“Of the 1,914 PDLs (persons deprived of liberty) prematurely released, we have verified all but 28,” said Perete who has supervision over the BI.

“Of the number verified, none appear in the BI records to have left the country,” he said.

The BI made the verification after Interior Secretary Eduardo Ano revealed he has received reports that a number of the 1,914 convicts who were released because of good conduct time allowance (GCTA) have fled the Philippines.

The figures represent the number released since 2013 when Republic Act 10592 was passed.

The law granted more GCTAs to inmates that allowed their earlier release from prison.
