Ex-CJ Panganiban backs PET’s position on VP poll protest: Hear all sides, then decide
Former chief justice Artemio Panganiban on Wednesday (Oct. 16) expressed support to the decision of the Supreme Court (SC), sitting as Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), not yet to rule on the electoral protest of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. based on the results of the recount if the three pilot provinces Camarines Sur, Iloilo and Negros Oriental.
“Maraming issues kailangan linawin muna,” he said during an interview over GMA Network.
“Pakinggan muna yung mga partido, bago sila mag-desisyon. In my opinion, prudent yung ganong way,” he pointed out.
The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo has been insisting that the PET should already dismiss the electoral protest of Marcos against her since the results showed he did not made any recover and she even gained more votes during the 2016 vice presidential polls.
However, Panganiban reminded that the recount concerns the second cause of action out of the three sought by Marcos.
Marcos asked in his third cause of action for the nullification of the votes in the provinces of Lanao del Sur, Basilan and Maguindanao.
“Meron ding pangalawang laban, tungkol naman dun sa tatlong probinsiya sa Mindanao,” Panganiban said.
