Feel niya ‘yon! Robredo: Duterte knows I’m no threat to him
Vice President Leni Robredo believes that President Duterte knows she is not part of any plan to kick him out of Malacanang.
In a radio interview on Friday (July 12, 2019), Robredo stressed anew that she has no intention of “wrestling power from” President Duterte a constant allegation against her.
“Tingin ko kapag—ito, hula ko lang—kapag nakikita ako ni Presidente, tingin ko ramdam niya naman na hindi naman ako threat. Gustong sabihin, wala naman akong pagnanasa na, alam mo, to wrestle power from him, gaya ng pino-portray ng iba. Sa tingin ko ramdam niya iyon,” she said.
The Vice President, who briefly served as the administration’s Housing czar, says Duterte remains “very civil” whenever they see each other in person. She noted, however, that their engagements are limited to a few official functions, such as those hosted by the military.
“May conversation naman. Nangungumusta siya. In fact, the last time we saw each other was iyong PMA [Philippine Military Academy] graduation, nangungumusta siya,” she said.
Robredo said those surrounding the President may have a hand in attempting to change his perception of her, through false information—like what happened when she was “eased out” of the Cabinet in 2016.
It can be recalled that the President said the VP had attended rallies calling for his ouster—which she never did.
Despite the difficulties posed by this dynamic, Robredo said she would rather focus on the work before her.
“Sobrang dami ng gagawin, na hindi naman puwedeng mag-dwell doon sa mga bagay na hindi mo naman kayang kontrolin,” she said.
