Floirendo ditches Pimentel from HNP slate in Davao del Norte

DAVAO CITY – Davao del Norte Second District Rep. Antonio “Tony Boy” Floirendo Jr. has ditched reelectionist administration Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III from the senatorial slate supported by Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) in the province of Davao del Norte.
In an interview, Floirendo vowed to deliver victories for many HNP bets as they can in their province. “We will deliver victories to as many as we can,” she said.
The HNP, chaired by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, has endorsed 13 senatorial candidates for the midterm polls next month.
According to Floirendo, it would be an easy task who to drop from the lineup to complete his own Magic 12 — the former Senate President Pimentel.
Floirendo, President Rodrigo Duterte’s top campaign donor during the 2016 polls, has been harboring a grudge against Pimentel, president of PDP Laban who reportedly signed his expulsion from the ruling administration party allegedly upon the recommendation of Floirendo’s estranged friend, former House Speaker and incumbent Davao del Norte first district Rep. Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez.
The Davao-based solon and the Presidential daughter were reportedly responsible for the ouster of Alvarez from the House leadership last year.
Alvarez who is seeking reelection as legislator of Davao del Norte’s first congressional district will be battling Floirendo’s cousin, incumbent provincial Gov. Anthony del Rosario this coming May.
Del Rosario is also the secretary-general of HNP.
