Filipinos can enjoy this Christmas season as long as they celebrate it as family and coronavirus (Covid-19)-free, Malacañang said.

When asked if the promise of President Rodrigo Duterte of a virus-free December in the Philippines still stands, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said: “Ang Merry Christmas nasa puso naman natin yan. Basta kapiling natin (ang ating) pamilya, ligtas sa sakit, tayo po’y magkakaroon ng Merry Christmas kung tayo po’y buhay.”

Last month, Duterte said he is hopeful for a holiday season free of the Covid-19 scourge following Russia’s offer of free vaccines.

“Hintay na lang kayo, kaunti na lang talaga. By December, sabi ko, in the fullness of God’s time, we will have a, hopefully, a COVID-free December and we can enjoy this Christmas season,” according to him.

The President likewise promised to prioritize buying vaccines from Russia and China, citing their “generosity” to the Philippines when “there was nothing at all in sight” at the start of the pandemic.
