Agusan del Norte Rep. Lawrence Fortun on Sunday said the country’s top leaders should take advantage of their high approval and trust ratings to pursue meaningful reforms in governance and ensure the efficient implementation of urgent programs for Filipinos.
“These ratings bode well for the implementation of new laws, programs, and projects we in Congress support with the legislations we push for and our work in the committees,” he said.
A Pulse Asia survey in December showed that President Rodrigo Duterte, Vice President Leni Robredo, Senate President Tito Sotto and Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano enjoyed majority approval and trust ratings.
“Government agencies should be more motivated to work harder and better not only in fulfilling, but more importantly, optimizing their mandates for the greater benefit of their constituencies,” Fortun said.
He also welcomed the high trust and approval rating for Robredo, whose numbers improved despite belonging to the political opposition.
“It is also most welcome that the Vice President, who is from the opposition, also enjoys approval from a majority of the people,” Fortun said.
“It shows that while the administration enjoys enormous public support, our people also welcome other views and perspectives that may at times be different from that of the administration,” he said.
“This is how a healthy democracy should be,” he said. He added, “VP Robredo’s disapproval, distrust, and undecided ratings also improved in December compared to last September. All these are good for our country’s democracy.”
