A person’s clothing is never a statement of consent or invitation to sexual assault.

Politiko scion Frankie Pangilinan took a stand against victim blaming after Lucban, Quezon police told women not to wear skimpy clothes to avoid rape or sexual harassment. Frankie is the daughter of Senator Francis Pangilinan and megastar Sharon Cuneta.

“STOP TEACHING GIRLS HOW TO DRESS?? TEACH PEOPLE NOT TO RAPE,” she said on Twitter.

“Breaking news: my clothing is NOT my consent,” she said in another tweet.

Broadcast journalist Ben Tulfo later called out Pangilinan for her statement, saying sex offenders only need an opportunity to commit a crime. He further advised “sexy ladies” to be careful with how they dress to avoid “inviting the beast.”

Pangilinan however boldly hit back at Tulfo’s comments, questioning his attempt to link clothes to sexual assault.

“Rape culture is real and a product of this precise line of thinking, where the behavior is normalized, particularly by men,” she tweeted. “The way anyone dresses should not be deemed as ‘opportunity’ to sexually assault them. ever,” she added.

On Tulfo calling her “hija,” Pangilinan said: “Calling me hija will not belittle my point.”
