From foe to friend: MNLF eyed to help gov’t run after ISIS
The Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) is being eyed to be tapped by the government to help fight elements linked with terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), said Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra.
The Secretary disclosed that this was agreed upon during the meeting held between President Rodrigo Duterte and MNLF founding chairman Nur Misuari last November 11.
“The objective is to forge a united front against ISIS elements in Mindanao,” said Guevarra who was present during the meeting.
During the meeting, Guevarra said Duterte and Misuari discussed the creation of a coordinating committee as part of peace efforts in Mindanao.
In the meantime, the Secretary said the parties arranging a series of meetings to discuss the creation of the committee.
