Is the ruling administration party, PDP Laban already preparing reelected Pampanga Rep. Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales for a bigger stage?
The PDP leadership on Monday announced that Gonzales will be given a more active role in the ruling party following his appointment as “Interim National Executive Vice President” last June 13.”
“Pampanga Rep. Dong Gonzales will be taking a more active role in running the day to day affairs of the ruling party,” said Ronwald Munsayac, deputy chief of staff of PDP Laban president Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.
Munsayac said Gonzales was also given the task by the party leadership to “ensure that the legislative priorities of Party—the party of the President are passed in the House of Representatives.”
Politiko learned that the inclusion of Gonzales in the party leadership is somewhat a preparation if ever he will be chosen as the official candidate of PDP for the House leadership next month.
The camp of Pimentel and Sen. Manny Pacquiao are reportedly rooting for the Pampanga solon as a compromise candidate for the hotly-contested Speakership battle next month which also involved their two other party mates, namely reelected Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco and former House Speaker Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez (Davao del Norte).
Gonzales earlier stressed that the next House leader should still come from the administration party so that he or she can pursue the legislative agenda of President Rodrigo Duterte who is the chairman of PDP.
Prior to his latest appointment, Gonzales previously served as PDP Laban’s overall deputy campaign manager during the midterm polls last month and also as regional president for Central Luzon.
