Gabriela Party-list Reps. Emmi de Jesus and Arlene Brosas want nothing more right now than to see United States (US) Marine Joseph Scott Pemberton within the National Bilibid Prison (NBP).
That’s exactly the lady potlikos’ call to local authorities following the Court of Appeal’s (CA) affirmation of Pemberton’s guilty verdict in December 2015 on the crime of homicide involving victim Jennifer Laude, a Filipina transgender woman.
“Gabriela Women’s Party welcomes the CA’s affirmation of the lower court’s guilty verdict against L/Cpl Joseph Scott Pemberton for the death of Jennifer Laude,” the solons said in a statement Monday (April 10), the same day as the CA ruling.
“The women’s partylist group calls for Pemberton’s immediate transfer to the national penitentiary and the full implementation of penalties in accordance with Philippine laws and judicial processes,” they said.
De Jesus and Brosas went on to slam the “special treatment” that has been given to the 22-year-old Pemberton since his conviction.
They blamed the Philippine-US pacts such as the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) and Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) for paving the way for such special treatment on the likes of Pemberton.
“These agreements should immediately be revoked to pave the way towards an independent foreign policy espoused by no less than the President himself,” they said.
Pemberton drowned Laude in a toilet bowl at Celzone Lodge in Olongapo City on October 11, 2014. #
