Galvez all praises for Duterte declaring lockdown, travel ban ahead of other countries: Mababa death rate natin, sa Amerika 1,000!
National Task Force COVID-19 Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr. could not hide his enthusiasm in praising President Rodrigo Duterte foresight and decisiveness in preventing the rapid spread of the coronavirus in the country.
Galvez said Duterte’s decision to impose a travel ban on countries with COVID cases (initialy for China (including Taiwan), Hong Kong, Macau and the South Korean province of North Gyeongsang in mid-February) and a lockdown, initially in Metro Manila on March 14, was vital in helping the country to minimize the infection rate and deaths. (A full travel band and Luzon-wide lockdown was declared in March 14).
At nakita natin na ang ating hard decision, ‘yung desperate decision natin is paving the way for good results that we are having now.,” said Galvez in a press conference presided by Duterte on April 8. So it gave us the capacity to improve our medical services. At the same time, nakita po natin na talagang mababa po ‘yung ano natin,” he added.
The Department of Health reported that COVID cases have reached 3,870 with 182 deaths as of April 8.
Galvez said the Philippine rate of infection and casualties due to the virus paled in comparison to other, more developed countries that were late in declaring travel bans and lockdowns.
Sa US (United States), they have 1,000 every day.
As of April 8, 2020, the US reported 12,900 deaths related to COVID-19.
