Garbin condemns sniper attack vs cops: ‘Purging bandits from Bicol is the only option’

House committee on justice vice chair Alfredo Garbin has condemned the armed attack against police personnel in Albay while supervising the distribution of social amelioration funds to residents affected by the prolonged Luzon lockdown.
Garbin said he received reports that a group of armed men in Libon, Albay ambushed a group of personnel from the Philippine National Police who provided area security during the release of COVID-19 financial aid in the said municipality.
“While most of us endure hardships because of the spread of the coronavirus, a band of armed men in Libon, Albay impede the distribution of social amelioration funds for Bicolanos who need the aid for daily survival,” said Garbin
One officer was injured during the sniper attack according to the party-list congressman from Ako Bicol.
Garbin urged the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and PNP “to launch countermeasures against any bandit group or rebel force in Libon and elsewhere in Albay.”
“Bandits have been a plague infecting communities like the COVID-19 virus,” said Garbin
He stressed that ending acts of terrorism like this in Bicol and the rest of our country should be among the top priorities when the COVID-19 crisis is over.
“Purging bandits from Bicol is the only option,” said Garbin.
