GMA leaves resolution of budget impasse to House negotiators: Diskarte na nila ‘yan!
Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will let the three-man panel from the House of Representatives figure out how to resolve the stalemate with the Senate over the proposed 2019 national budget.
In an interview in Manila Friday (March 22), Arroyo said she does not want to “micromanage” the negotiations between the House and Senate.
“I don’t want to micromanage also their negotiations because the ones who did the budget know what they did and know what their flexibilities are,” she said.
House appropriations committee chair Rep. Rolando Andaya Jr., San Juan City Rep. Ronaldo Zamora and Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman are set to meet with Senate finance committee chair Senator Loren Legarda and two of her colleagues next Monday (March 25) to try to resolve the budget impasse.
The 2019 General Appropriations Act has yet to be signed by President Rodrigo Duterte because the enrolled copy of the bill does not have Senate President Vicente Sotto III’s signature.
Sotto has refused to sign the budget bill because of the alleged illegal realignments done by the House after the measure was ratified in February.
Arroyo maintained that she did not have a hand in the realignments as the preparation of the budget bill was undertaken by Andaya’s committee.
The former President, however, said she wants the impasse over the national budget to end “as soon as possible.”
