GMA on Sara’s presidential prospects: ‘Historically, presidential children do rise’
Take it from another presidential daughter.
Short of endorsing the presidential run of President Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter in 2022, House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Wednesday described Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte as a “rising star in Philippine politics.”
Arroyo, a former President who was herself the daughter of a President, Diosdado Macapagal, said history might favor the younger Duterte should she seek the presidency when her father’s term expires in 2022.
“She’s a rising star in Philippine politics, and let me just put it this way, historically children of presidents do rise,” she told reporters in an ambush interview.
Arroyo also noted how others, including Senator Ping Lacson, saw the Davao mayor’s potential.
“Let me just say she is a rising star in Philippine politics. Even Senator Ping Lacson saw that,” she said.
But Arroyo added it might be too early to talk about the 2022 presidential elections.
“But let’s take it one election at a time. Let’s make sure first the good people are elected now and let us talk about 2022 later on,” she said.
