Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo paid tribute to her staunch ally, the late LPGMA party-list Rep. Rodolfo Albano Sr. during the necrological services for him at the House of Representatives, calling him a man of loyalty.
The former Speaker of the House recalled how Albano, father of incumbent Isabela Governor Rodolfo Albano III and Isabela Rep. Tonypet Albano, stayed loyal to her even during her darkest times as a politician.
“In 2010, Rudy Albano returned to Congress and stayed with me in the opposition during my darkest political days,” Arroyo said.
“He was the opposition representative to the HRET. There were times when administration emissaries tried to pressure him to vote for decisions meant to jeopardize my allies. He rebuffed the pressures,” she recalled.
“He said, ‘Sa edad kong ito at sa haba ng buhay ko sa politika, hindi na ako dapat pabago-bago. Kaya ako nandito. Hindi para sa sarili ko kundi para sa grupo.’ And so he stayed with me until the end of his term and the end of his life, and for my allies, too,” Arroyo said.
She said Alban was a “man for all seasons, a man whose behavior was always appropriate to every occasion, and appropriate to every role he played in political life.”
“Summing up Rudy Albano’s public life, I keep coming back to one thought. Never will you meet a man who more faithfully lived the value of loyalty,” Arroyo said.
