GMA will not run for senator, says Pichay

A staunch ally of House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has denied rumors that the former President was considering a senatorial bid in the 2019 elections through substitution.
Deputy Speaker Prospero “Butch” Pichay (Surigao del Sur) said there was nothing true about rumors about Mrs. Arroyo’s supposed Senate comeback.
“Iyan ang tinatawag na fake news. Hindi po totoo iyan,” said Pichay.
In her speech during her visit in Brgy. Northbay Boulevard South-Proper in Navotas City over the weekend, Arroyo said she plans to retire from public service after her congressional term.
“Ako naman mag ga-graduate na—mag ga-graduate talaga sa public service. Kaya ang inisip ko, eto sa mga huling plan ng aking pagiging public servant, gusto kong libutin yung mga paborito kong mga proyekto,” said Arroyo.
Earlier this month, several rumors have circulated that the House leader may pursue a Senate comeback using the substitution scheme.
The said scheme was the same mode used by then Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte when he filed the certificate of candidacy for the 2016 Presidential Elections in November 2015.
But it seems that no one from the five senatorial bets of the ruling administration party, Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban) is willing to pave way for Arroyo unless the former chief executive decides to return to his old political entity, the Lakas Christian-Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD).
Lakas-CMD has fielded detained former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. and medical blogger Dr. Willie Ong.
