Go girl! Kiko backs Robredo in suing cyberbullies
Vice President Leni Robredo has all the reasons to file cyber libel charges against a male blogger for repeatedly cursing and humiliating the former in his social media posts.
Sen. Kiko Pangilinan made the remark when asked whether it is about time for Robredo to file charges against Drew Olivar.
Olivar claimed in his recent video blog post that Robredo merely slept around when she went to South Africa in April 2017.
Asked whether Olivar’s remarks warrant legal actions on the part of Robredo, Pangilinan said, “That is being explored and being considered. So, let us just wait.”
“If I were the vice president, I would consider filing legal actions,” Pangilinan said in a media forum.
“You know VP Leni has been vice president for more than two years. And she has been victimized repeatedly, regularly by these trolls,” he stressed.
He added that Robredo “has kept her peace precisely because we respect the right to free speech.”
“But syempre lahat may hangganan. So sana kapag siya ay kumilos na maunawaan din ng ating mga kababayan na kailangan din namang tayo ay may pananagutan sa ating mga bitiw na salita,” he said.
Pangilinan added, “Lalo na ‘yung paninira at lalo na ‘yung pananakot, walang puwang dapat sa isang demokrasya.”
The Liberal Party (LP) president said he saw the post but opted not watch it. “We also have to have our efforts in terms of bringing out the truth.”
“We are also going back to our supporters and help rebut itong mga fake news,” said Pangilinan, one of the 6 members of the Senate minority bloc.
“Ultimately in the end kinakailangan mapagbantay ang ating mga kababayan. Hindi dapat nagpapadala sa mga paninira at fake news,” he said.
He added, “Admittedly though, our resources aren’t as plentiful ika nga, kumpara sa mga trolls na mukhang malaki ang budget.”
“But in the end we just have to keep speaking up. Hindi tayo pwedeng manahimik. Hindi tayo pwedeng mawalan ng loob. Dapat labanan natin,” Pangilinan said.
“Pero dapat ang paglaban natin ay dapat kung sila ay fake, dapat ang ilabas natin ay ‘yung totoo,” he said.
Pangilinan, however, said he has yet to discuss his proposa to pursue legal action against Olivar. “Hindi pa kami nagkakausap.”
