Go slams Drilon’s resolution: Senators can either appove or reject ABS-CBN franchise
The Senate must either approve or reject the renewal of the franchise of the ABS-CBN broadcast network.
Senator Bong Go made the remark on Wednesday as he questioned the joint resolution filed by Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon seeking to extend the franchise of ABS-CBN up to the end of 2022.
Go asked, “Bakit joint resolution? Bakit hindi na lang natin aprubahan o disapubahan (ang renewal ng franchise)?”
“Bakit December 31, 2022, meron bang pulitika dito?” he pointed out.
Drilon recently filed Joint Resolution 11 seeking to extend the ABS-CBN’s franchise up to end December 2022.
The broadcast corporation’s 25-year franchise is set to expire on March 30, 2020. There are 11 pending bills at the House of Representatives seeking the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise.
“Tanong ko nga, pareho naman. A joint resolution extending the franchise of ABS-CBN until December 2022 is, in effect, amending the existing franchise law which provides for a term of 25 years,” Go said.
“Thus, the move to use joint resolution. Para sa akin, personally, as a senator, isang boto lang naman po ako,” Go said.
“It’s either we approve or we deny or reject,” the senator from Davao City said.
