Goodbye sa sablay! Duterte appoints retired Army general as MWSS chairman
President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed retired Army Brigadier General Ricardo Morales as the new chairman of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), barely two months after a water crisis affected parts of Metro Manila and Rizal.
Duterte announced Morales’ appointment during Senator-elect Bong Go’s thanksgiving party in Davao City Thursday night (May 23).
Walang nakatira… Si Dick,” he said in a speech.
Duterte previously threatened to replace all MWSS officials over the water crisis in Metro Manila, which affected thousands of Manila Water consumers.
Senator Grace Poe had taken MWSS officials to task over the crisis, saying they failed to prepare for El Nino. She attributed the agency’s incompetence to the absence of engineers in its board.
