Gov’t to ensure every peso of 2020 budget is well spent

Malacañang on Thursday said it will make sure that every peso of the proposed P4.1-trillion budget for next year is duly accounted for.

“We shall account for every peso of the P4.1 Trillion budget, keeping in mind that the people’s hard-earned money would be utilized productively and efficiently for the latter’s welfare and interest,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo in a statement said.

The Department of Budget and Management submitted to Congress the 2020 national budget Tuesday.

Panelo, meanwhile, said the Palace wishes Congress would act swiftly to pass the spending bill on time.

“We hope that our lawmakers would review and act on the approval of our national budget with dispatch. The Filipino people expect no less from their elected officials in the Legislative Branch of the Government,” he added.

According to him, next year’s budget, which forms part of our continuing journey to a more peaceful and progressive Philippines, will sustain the significant strides the administration has taken over the past few years.

“The Department of Education would get the biggest slice of the budget at P673 billion followed by the Department of Public Works and Highways at P534.3 Billion, the Department of the Interior and Local Government at P238 Billion, the Department of Social Welfare and Development at P195 Billion, and the Department of National Defense at P189 Billion,” said Panelo.

The government, he added, will finance next year the implementation of the Universal Healthcare, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund, and the initial operations of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development among others.
