Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is back in government as the new Presidential Adviser on Clark Flagship Programs and Projects.
Arroyo, former House Speaker, was tapped by President Duterte to supervise development programs in Clark, Pampanga. The former leader hails from Pampanga.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Arroyo thanked Duterte for appointing her to the new government post and vowed to help convert Clark into an economic powerhouse in Asia. She said the development of Clark would contribute to job generation and economic revival amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“In this time of pandemic and the worst global recession in nearly a century, the rapid harnessing of the Clark-Subic service logistics corridor for jobs, investment and inclusive development is indispensable for national recovery,” she said.
Arroyo, a former economics professor, considers Clark development an immense undertaking, which she said, was among her priority thrusts during her presidency,
“Let us join hands with government and business movers and shakers to turn Clark into Asia’s economic powerhouse in the 2020s!” the former President said.
Arroyo also posted her appointment paper on Facebook as well as photos of her simple oath-taking ceremony. Based on the appointment paper, Arroyo will only receive a one peso compensation every year.
Arroyo, daughter of the late President Diosdado Macapagal, served as president from 2001 to 2010. She later served as Pampanga 2nd District congressmen for three terms.
