Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo is set to resign from the Cabinet by October because he’s been burnt out by his job, the Philippine Star has reported.
Citing sources, the Star said Domingo’s resignation will take effect on the first week of October. Malacañang has yet to name his replacement.
Both the Palace and Domingo, however, could not be reached for comment on the issue.
Domingo is one of the longest-serving members of the Aquino Cabinet, having been appointed just months after President Benigno Aquino III took office.
Prior to managing the Department of Trade and Industry, he served as board director for various companies, including SM Investments Corp., BDO Private Bank, Meralco and Belle Corp.
In an interview with People Asia Magazine last June, Domingo said he has no plans of running for public office because he “has already exceeded his personal expectations of being Trade Secretary for two to three years.”
He said he is looking forward to spending time with his grandchildren and playing “Free Cell” on his computer once his term is over.
