An official of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is under fire for branding University of the Philippines (UP) marine science experts as “bayaran.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner Rowena Guanzon has backed calls seeking the resignation of the DENR official, calling him “low life” and “ignoramus.”
“That low life who called those UP Scientists ‘bayaran’ is an ignoramus,” Guanzon tweeted Thursday October 15.
“What’s the opposite of washed out? Ano sabi nya, ‘wash in?’ HAHAHA #bawalangshunga,” she added.
The Comelec official also shared a statement from the Geographic Society of the University of the Philippines calling for the resignation of DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda since he was supposedly not qualified for the job. Antiporda was also criticized for his alleged disregard for the opinion of local scientists.
“Considering your ill fitting background for the job’ you should resign, you IGNORAMUS!” Guanzon tweeted.
Antiporda earlier accused UP experts of being “bayaran” or paid hacks, saying the government was paying them for consultation services. The DENR official was trying to defend the Manila Bay white beach project from criticisms from the academic group. He has apologized to UP saying he was carried away by his emotions.
