Guevarra confirms Duterte can fire Robredo from ICAD: Siya ang boss!
Vice President Leni Robredo can be removed from the Inter-Agency Committee on Illegal Drugs (ICAD) any time, said Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra.
Guevarra made this point after President Rodrigo Duterte threatened to remove Robredo as ICAD co-chairperson if she reveals classified information concerning the government’s war against illegal drugs.
“As the appointing authority, the President may remove any appointee at his pleasure, more especially if trust and confidence, which is the principal basis of any appointment, is lost,” the Secretary said.
“Needless to say, disclosing sensitive and classified information to unauthorized persons is betrayal of trust, and is therefore a proper and reasonable basis for revocation of one’s appointment,” he added.
Robredo accepted last November 6 accepted Duterte’s appointment of her as ICAD co-chairperson.
Because of this, Guevarra who is also a member of the ICAD would not yet assess her performance at the committee.
“Although it’s too early to assess the VP’s performance as co-chair of the ICAD, her possible removal from the ICAD for whatever cause, like the removal of any other member of the committee, will have no bearing on the work of the committee as no one is indispensable in the drug campaign, and there will always be someone better to take his or her place,” he said.
