Guevarra hails Senate’s opposition to abolishing PCGG, OGCC

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has hailed the decision of the Senate not to abolish the Philippine Commission on Good Government (PCGG) and the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel (OGCC).

“It may be premature to comment as the Senate bill has not been enacted into law,” he said.

“But to the extent that the bill has proposed to keep the PCGG and the OGCC under the wings of the DOJ (Department of Justice) and has further empowered the OSG (Office of the Solicitor General, I am satisfied,” he pointed out.

Recently, the Senate approved on third and final reading last Tuesday Senate Bill 1823 which sought to expand the powers and capabilities of the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) without having to abolish the PCGG and OGCC.

Guevarra had earlier expressed opposition to proposals to abolish the two agencies and their powers be absorbed by the OSG.
