Guevarra justifies Chinese drug lord’s flight from PH: He ain’t on Interpol’s watch list
Justice Secretary Guevarra on Friday (May 31) defended government agencies over allegations that government agencies did nothing to prevent alleged Chinese drug lord Jacky Co from leaving the country.
During his recent privilege speech, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Co should have been prevented leaving the country last April 3 since he is already in the watch list of the Interpol.
Co has been tagged in the P1.8 billion shipment of shabu which was discovered last March 22 at the Manila International Container Port (MICP).
“According to the consul general of China, a certain Xu zhijian (also known as Jacky Co) has a pending case in China. Hhowever, he is not in the Interpol watchlist, and this is certified by the Interpol NCB (National Central Bureau) Manila,” bared Guevarra.
He also learned from the Bureau of Immigration (BI) that there were no records that Co left the Philippines on April 3.
“The BI records show, however, that a certain Xu Zhijian left on 20 March 2019,” he said.
On the other hand, Guevarra pointed out the BI could prevent Co’s departure since “there was no existing hold-departure order against the said person.”
Meanwhile, Guevarra said he will order the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct a probe of the shipment.
