Guevarra orders NBI to probe killings of NCMH chief, PCSO exec
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the separate killings of National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) chief Dr. Roland Cortez and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Board Secretary Wesley Barayuga.
Guevarra has already issued a department order last August 3 for the NBI to conduct investigations and case-build up for the two killings as well as that of Cortez’s driver Ernesto dela Cruz.
The secretary instructed the NBI that “if the evidence warrants, to file the appropriate charges against persons involved and found responsible therefor.”
NBI Officer-In-Charge Eric Distor was also told to submit to Guevarra a progress report in 10 days concerning the investigations.
Cortez and dela Cruz were together in his car when they were fired at by unidentified assailants in Quezon City on July 27.
The same thing happened to Barayuga in Mandaluyong City on July 30 but his driver managed to survive the shooting.
