Guevarra warns Acierto’s coddlers: Magsasama kayo sa kulungan!
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra warned those coddling former Police Sr. Supt. Eduardo Acierto that they will end up in jail for helping the fugitive.
The Secretary issued the warning since Acierto remains in hiding even after a Manila court issued arrest warrants over drug importation charges the former police officials is facing concerning the billions of pesos worth shabu which were smuggled in 2018 using magnetic lifters.
“In general, people who harbor or conceal accused-at-large are liable for obstruction of justice,” Guevarra saud.
“More specifically, coddlers or protectors of persons accused of violating Section 4 of the dangerous drugs law (importation of illegal drugs) are likewise criminally liable under Sec. 4 and stand to suffer imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine of up to P500,000,” he added.
So far, only former Bureau of Customs (BOC) former intelligence officer Jimmy Guban has been arrested based on the warrants of arrests issued by the Manila court.
Also issued arrest warrants are their co-accused former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) deputy director Ismael FajardoChan Yee Wah; Zhou Quan; Emily Luquingan; and consignees Vedasto Cabral Baraquel Jr. and his wife Maria Lagrimas Catipan of Vecaba Trading.
