Gulo ‘to! Zubiri warns: Senators to walk out if House forces Con Ass at SONA
Senators will walk out if members of the House of Representatives push for convening a constituent assembly (Con Ass) during the joint session on June 23 for President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri has warned.
In an interview over ANC’s “Headstart” Monday (July 16), Zubiri said the prospect of convening a con ass next week “should not even be experimented with.”
“I can tell you now what some of my colleagues might do: they might walk out. A lot of senators might just stand up and walk out. It will be a mess,” he said.
Zubiri said Duterte should just be allowed to deliver his SONA in the joint session.
The House has passed a resolution to convene as a con ass to amend the Constitution.
Senators, however, are opposing the move since their counterparts from the House want the voting on the proposed amendments to be done jointly.
Such a move will render senators powerless as they are no match to the 292-strong chamber.
