A formal charge will be filed Monday (November 9) against Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro, who was caught on video assaulting her Filipina household worker, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said.

In a tweet posted Saturday (November 7), Locsin said he already has a copy of the charge against Mauro.

“Yes. FORMAL CHARGE will be made on MONDAY; it is already in my laptop but this is the weekend wch I spend swimming 5,000 meters a day & recovering therefrom,” he said in response to a netizen’s demand for an update on the proceedings against Mauro.

Locsin said Mauro will be tried by a panel. He assured that the proceedings against her will not drag on.

“Then a panel will try her. While this can take a long time it won’t. Pourqua? MOI is SFA. Then I send the judgment to PMS,” he said, referring to the Presidential Management Staff.

Mauro was recalled from her post after the Brazilian media showed video clips of her hitting her maid inside the ambassador’s official residence.

The maid, who the Department of Foreign Affairs said had been with Mauro’s family for a long time, has returned to her hometown in South Cotabato.

Mauro is also back in the Philippines, though she has yet to make a statement about the issue.
