President Rodrigo Duterte said former presidential spokesman Harry Roque will defend the administration in its case against water concessionaires Maynilad and Manila Water.
“Tell them, ‘There’s no f—g payment coming their way.’ And so I began to scrutinize the contract and Harry is here, he will be one of the lawyers who they will be facing, maybe in court,” Duterte said at the celebration of the 120-year presence of the Baptist Churches in the Philippines.
Roque, who was present at the event on Thursday, refused to comment as he has yet to recieve an offer.
Duterte reiterated his government will not pay billions it owed to the two water firms for the non-implementation of rate hikes years ago.
“There was this provision kuno allegedly that I have to pay them for the losses that they incurred while waiting for the approval of the price increase — not the price — the rates of water,” the President said.
“In other words, we pay for their losses. And so when the bill was submitted to me, I said, you know what is this s***? Tell them… I said… Tell — there’s no f****** payment coming their way,” he added.
