“This is wrong.”

Actress Heart Evangelista-Escudero is opposed to a tougher anti-terrorism law proposed by lawmakers.

In a post on Twitter, the wife of Sorsogon Governor Francis Escudero expressed concern that the anti-terrorism bill might lead to abuses despite assurances from the proponents.

“I am not an expert but I care and I know in my heart that this is wrong,” Heart said.

“I cannot support a law that could easily be abused simply because they say they won’t abuse it,” she said.

Heart also called on government leaders to learn from history of liberty and the abuse of power, citing a quote from the late US President Thomas Woodrow Wilson.

“Someone once said that, ‘The history of liberty is a history of limitations on governmental power, not the increase of it.’ I hope those in power learn from history and heed this call,” she said.

Heart made the comment about the controversial anti-terror bill after consulting some people including lawyers and rights activists in recent days. She said she also talked to “people I trust to educate and make me understand better what the #AntiTerrorismBill stands for.”
