A party-list solon recently urged transportation authorities to immediately place all of the country’s airports under appropriate alert status for detecting and containing the spread of measles.

Bagong Henerasyon Party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera-Dy made the statement following the confirmed case of a child with measles who returned home to Australia.

She said airport and civil aviation authorities must take extra special care of children, pregnant women, seniors and other people who may be susceptible to the measles virus,

She said safety protocols in place for SARS “would be the same to be used for measles,” but instead of keeping the virus out, the objective now was “to keep measles from spreading to the rest of the country and the world.”

She said airport and civil aviation authorities must take extra special care of children, pregnant women, seniors and other people who may be susceptible to the measles virus.

The solon added that screening and containment protocols are also needed for seaports and bus terminals.
