‘He’s our Speaker:’ Salceda says House probe on Cayetano blunder in SEAG hosting won’t prosper

House Committee on Ways and Means chair Joey Salceda has turned down a potential inquiry against organizers of the 30th Southeast Asian Games including Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano amidst series of blunders and mishandling in the sporting event.
Salceda said it would be irksome if the House of Representatives will probe the series of fiascos in the Philippines’ hosting of this year’s SEAG, considering that Cayetano is also the chairman of the Philippines Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC).
“Of course, he’s our Speaker and therefore I don’t think an investigation will prosper in the House,” said Salceda during the Kapihan sa Manila Bay news forum.
“We will support the Speaker. Better if the Senate does it,” Salceda added.
Salceda earlier described the P55-million SEAG cauldron in New Clark City as “Imeldific” but “reasonable,” and just appropriate for an “authoritarian regime” because since it symbolizes President Rodrigo Duterte’s decisiveness.
The Albay solon expressed confidence that the flak drawn by the organizers particularly by Cayetano and PHISGOC would soon be reversed.
“There will be a tidal wave of reversal of public sentiment starting Nov. 30. This will be the best SEA Games hosted in the history,” he said.
“These games will make you proud. I’ve seen how hardworking Speaker Cayetano is. Those who are being negative about it will eat their own words,” he added.
