Hindi namin boss si Koko: Trillanes to seek plenary voting on Senate custody for Matobato
Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV is contesting Senate President Koko Pimentel’s right to reject protective custody to self-confessed Davao Death Squad hitman Edgar Matobato despite the endorsement made by the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights.
Trillanes said he would raise at the plenary session on Monday Pimentel’s swift denial of Matobato’s plea for security. It was the first time the Senate had refused to protect its witness.
“Kailangang madesisyunan muna dito, yung Senate President wala kang extra ordinary power. You dont have the power to overrule any decision of the committee, kasi collegial body ang Senado. Otherwise magiging boss namin siya, eh di naman yan ganoon,” said Trillanes in an interview with DZBB’s Nimfa Ravelo.
Trillanes said if the majority of senators vote to grant Matobato’s protective custody, Pimentel has no choice but to accede to the wishes of the majority. He said such voting would also show where the senators stand on the issue.
“Siya (Pimentel) yung boss ng mga empleyado ng Senado, kasi siya ang nanangangasiwa ng administrative aspect ng Senate. Pero yung mga Senador siya lang ang presiding officer, pero di kami subjected (na upturn Aniya),” said Trillanes.
Trillanes denied that Matobato’s testimony was off-topic because he would provide the connection between the pattern of killings by the DDS in the last three decades and the 3,000 alleged summary killings in the first three months of the Duterte administration.
